Mission Market Express Opens at ARTIC in Anaheim
The employees of the new Mission Market Express had only a few days before they were tested in a big way. The store on the first floor of the new Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC) opened December 6, the same day that the building opened to the public for the first time. Just seven days later, the store completed several hundred transactions, brewed dozens of pots of coffee, and hosted several vendors who helped make the Explore ARTIC Grand Opening Celebration on December 13, 2014 a great success.
Several supplier partners showcased their products and provided special offers for Mission Market Express customers. Zico Beverages of L.A., CA sampled three delicious flavors of its market-leading coconut water and ran a Buy One, Get One offer through Mission Market Express. Genius Juice, an Orange, CA purveyor of organic, raw coconut smoothies, sampled several flavors of their intensely original coconut blends. The novel and sustainable packaging of Boxed Water was showcased on a pallet front-and-center and generated an incredible amount of attention. Equally compelling was the price, at $1 for a half-liter.
Not only does the new store extend Mission Market’s distinction as the only market in California to accept Bitcoin, it now hosts a two-way Bitcoin ATM (BTM). Provided by ZenBox, the BTM was part of a simultaneous launch of the first such machines in Orange County. Representatives from EZCoinAccess.com, AirBitz, and ZenBox educated hundreds of people about Bitcoin, giving out prizes generously donated by Frito-Lay and Hershey’s, as well as free Bitcoin.
The Grand Opening Celebration was estimated to have attracted over 6,000 people to the new, 67,000 square-foot facility. When the rest of its exciting retail tenants open by next summer, ARTIC will have a full range of transportation, dining, retail and entertainment options in one convenient location. The complex is located between Honda Center and Angel Stadium of Anaheim and is expected to serve about 10,000 people a day in its first year.
Mission Market Express is the second store for Progressive Convenience, Inc., of Fullerton, CA. The new store’s unique location required a new Express concept to provide those products and services that are more relevant to tourists and commuters. Some of these products and services include: a selection of more than forty newspapers and magazines; phone top-up and bill payment services; travel-size personal care products; electronics accessories; and a huge assortment of bakery items. The store will also soon accept EBT payments and sell California Lottery products. The store is doubling-down on its tremendous selection of freshly-packaged grab ‘n go food, like sushi made fresh daily by Kikka Sushi. The company also is in talks with a local bakery to produce high-end sandwiches, meals and baked goods exclusively for Mission Market.
Progressive Convenience’s President and General Manager, Roland Foss, explains: “Mission Market Express is equally committed to our core strategies of great design, great people, and superior management, positioned to the consumer around grab ‘n go products. It’s just a little smaller and focused even more on the person on-the-go. You could say that this location challenges us to produce the ultimate expression of a convenience store. We are so excited to deliver that.” Foss and his six employees—two of whom were hired through the City of Anaheim and Anaheim Workforce Investment Board’s AnaheimJobs.com job board—are hard at work providing a pleasant shopping experience in the beautiful and iconic ARTIC.
Mission Market Express is located at 2626 E Katella Ave., Unit 124, Anaheim 92806. Its current hours of operation are 5:30AM-10:30PM Monday-Friday and 6:00 AM-10:30PM Saturday and Sunday.
